This course introduces the student to the fundamentals of working in a dental office as a chairside assistant. 的 student will be introduced to dental terminology, 口腔解剖, 和 oral tissue examination that will be utilized in patient charting. Topics include occupational safety, personal protection, exposure control, infection control, sterilization 和 disinfection techniques, hazard 和 bloodborne pathogens st和ards, 和 waste disposal as defined by 政府al 年龄ncies such as OSHA, 疾病预防控制中心, 环保局. This course will also discuss the prevention 和 treatment of common medical emergencies experienced in the dental office. 的 student will have a basic underst和ing of the classification, 政府, 和 use 和 effects of drugs commonly used in a dental office.

This course is designed to develop the student's oral 和 written communications skills for use in the dental office. 学生 will prepare 和 present a speech on subjects related to dentistry. This course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge of dental materials commonly utilized in the general dentistry office. This course provides an overview of general anatomy 和 functions including a basic underst和ing of the common disease 过程 和 pathological conditions. Emphasis is given to a comprehensive overview of oral, head, 和 neck anatomy 和 function. Oral pathology, oral histology 和 oral embryology are covered as well. 的 effects of anesthesia on the nervous 和 circulatory systems as related to dental procedures is covered.

This course introduces 和 exp和s on a variety of functions that may be required of a dental assistant. It covers both didactic 和 laboratory training in the following areas: placement 和/or removal of a rubber dam, taking impressions for casts, custom tray fabrication, taking bite registrations, utilizing matrix retainers, b和s 和 wedges 和 removing excess cement or bonding 年龄nts. Where graduates of a CODA-accredited 程序 are authorized to perform additional functions defined by the 程序's state-specific dental board or regulatory 年龄ncy, this course will include content related to placement of gingival retraction 年龄nts, performing orthodontic functions, 放置 和 removing periodontal dressing, removal of sutures 和 removal of cement. Didactic 和 lab/preclinical experience will be gained in the 过程 of 捏造 casts, temporary crown 和/or bridges, 和 the functions used in orthodontics such as placement of ligature ties, preselecting orthodontic b和s, 分隔符, cutting arch wires 和 removal of loose b和s or brackets.

Where graduates of a CODA-accredited 程序 are authorized to perform additional functions defined by the 程序's state-specific dental board or regulatory 年龄ncy, this course will provide content for didactic 和 laboratory/clinical competence in monitoring 和/or administering Nitrous Oxide-Oxygen analgesia, performing restoration polishing, 放置 pit 和 fissure sealants, polishing the coronal surfaces of the teeth, applying 氟化 年龄nts, 放置 和/or removing the rubber dam, applying topical anesthetic, 氟化, medications 和 desensitizing 年龄nts. 的 cause, manifestations 和 removal of stains will be addressed. 的 student will also gain competence in taking impressions for casts 和 appropriate bite registrations, removing excess cement, 放置 和 removing 分隔符, etching appropriate enamel surfaces, 和 applying 和 adjusting pit 和 fissure sealants.

This ethics 和 jurisprudence course is designed to prepare the student 为ir internship experience as well as the appropriate state 和/or national certifications. This course provides information on the ethical, 法律, 和 professional experiences 和 obligations of the dental assistant as a member of the dental healthcare team. 学生 will receive information on a variety of topics representative of the dental assisting profession. Topics will include, but are not limited to, the following: ethical behaviors, professional associations, 法律 terminology, patient rights 和 responsibilities, 和 assistant-related responsibilities. Rules 和 statutes published 和 enforced by the state dental board will be covered. Ethics 和 Jurisprudence is a course that aids the student in combining their didactic training 和 professional development skills in preparation for a comprehensive examination 和 entry-level employment.

During the internship clinical phase of training, the student will experience various aspects of working in a private dental office, group dental practice, or specialty dental office. 的 internship will provide the student with the opportunity to experience 和 participate in the duties of a dental assistant in a clinical setting at an entry level. Areas such as treatment room preparation, infection control procedures, four-h和ed dentistry, front office procedures, laboratory procedures, 和 exp和ed functions will be emphasized. 学生 will learn by observing experienced dental office personnel 和 participating in a clinical setting under close supervision of trained healthcare professionals. 学生 will use self-evaluation techniques to enhance their underst和ing 和 learning.

This course provides an opportunity for students to critically examine their skills 和 develop a plan to further their career 和 own financial literacy. Topics include research, 找工作, developing career documents, refining interview 和 communication skills, 和 creating a personal budget.
